Democracy

Three new pages have been added to the fifth episode..

I deal here with a topic which is only slightly hinted nowadays: what if internet was the real key to democracy? It might seem utopic but what if we had the laws voted by the population through the net? Why don't we consult the people now that the means of communication allow it? Why don't we really launch the debate as our dear politicians like to say it?

This would help us get rid of two cancers which plague the advance of our civilization: abuses of power and lobbys. And we could then obtain what the people really desires. This would involve us in the political choices of the country and make us bear the responsability of our policies. Politicians are chained to their image, to the direction of their political party and they are under the pressure of financial groups through lobbys which kill all political initiatives...

The Dark Knight and the Chapter V

Four new pages for the chapter V! Enjoy!

This morning, i saw "The Dark Knight Rises". After a magnificient seconod episode, this one was quite lackluster. The story is quite disappointing in spite of what the critics say... Less dark, less gripping, less tortured... Well, it's a good movie but from Nolan (Memento, The Perfume...) I was expecting more. What is more worrying is the buzz around the movie (see the declaration of one of the distributors saying he was "afraid" that this movie was so good it would eclipse their other productions... yeah right...) and the obvious openings for future spinoffs written in the script while Nolan keep saying this episode is the last. Did he make conscessions and altered his work to please the studios? Too bad...

Class Conflict and chapter V

Two new pages have been added to the chapter V.

I want to talk about a manga which had a huge influence for Cowboys in Orbit. It is "Kamui Den" by Sanpei Shirato. This manga was published in the 60s in Japan and was very influencial during the students protests at the time.

This manga describes the class conflict but not exactly as we generally picture it. Taking place during the Tokugawa era in Japan, it shows how the ruling class stratified the society to control it. We then see how they put every means to resist the ascension of a new cast of merchants and the rebellion of young peasants aspiring to a better life through education.

What is very striking is that this work echoed the society of Japan in the 60s but it mirrors even better our present society. The class conflict, if it even exists now, is a battle controled by the gouvernements  and it becomes more and more obvious in our context of "crisis". The ex-French President Nicolas Sarkozy was an expert in divisive policies to prevent population to open their eyes on real issues.

This kind of manga also underlines how history repeats itself again and again. So here is my own humble contribution...

Chapter IV fully online!

The chapter IV is available! The little link appeared on the right panel.

Yesterday, a terrible news was announced in France. Viz Media (that you probably know), owned by Shueisha (legendary publisher of Dragonball, Naruto, One Piece...) decided that their mangas will published exclusively by Kaze.

It probably doesn't say much if you don't know the situation of comics in France but many publishing houses were depending on mangas sales. Now, they will have to find new franchises elsewhere... Is it a revolution or an apocalypse? We'll see...
